Gungaan Street Play
Deep rooted evils exist in our society that are nourished by none other than our own religious insecurities and lack of brotherhood for fellow countrymen. These evils are manifested through riots, fights or else -as per the new ‘trend’- social media trolling.
We as citizens of such a diverse country do little to maintain peace in it. Whenever there is an attack or martyrdom of soldier, instead of providing with physical or financial aid, we make it a social media fad.
On 12th and 13th October 2019, Natyansh Society of dramatic and performing arts presented street play called ‘Gungaan’ at pichhola paal and fateh sagar respectively. The play gungaan was aimed to deliver these truths to the audience in a subtle way so as to clarify the message of brotherhood and empathy. We should not fight over colours and must realise that in every religion the same colours stand for the same meaning and significance. Instead of taking up to social media everytime something happens, we must offer our real help at times of situations like natural calamities and if possible, we should even consider becoming a soldier ourselves or inspire the youth to do so. Becoming a soldier does not mean we need to stand on the borders to protect our country. In fact, just small acts of brotherhood and spreading positivity in the country can build a strong and integrated society.
The play was greatly received by an excellent audience who appreciated the efforts of the team to bring out such topics of social issues in a way that was entertaining as well as eye opening.
