Taraash 2021

Natyansh, in every holiday season brings the theatre workshop called Taraash in Udaipur. This is where we let participants discover the artform of Theatre and experiencing the space. They can shape and polish the art in themselves in whichever way they desire, hence the name Taraash. We provide the platform and the tools of theatre to help them explore. We work on their speech, body language, dialogue delivery, expressions and imagination. The workshop is followed by a show where we invite audience to watch and provide a platform to the participants to present what they learnt through the medium of a performance.

Covid has affected our lives badly, so when everything was becoming normal, team Natyansh for the first time though to organise theatre workshop in winter vacations. During the Winter Theatre Workshop, from 25th December 2021 to 2nd January 2022, we invited participants for Taraash 2021-22. From children to adults, everyone collaborated to put their minds and creativity together and prepare two plays to be performed on 2nd January. The shows were – The Message by Anton Chekhov and Andher Nagri by Bharatendu Harishchandra.

Paigaam: Paigaam is the translation of Anton Chekhov’s one-act play “The Proposal”. It is an entertaining comedy. A young neighbor has come to politely ask the father for his daughter’s hand. But this, supposedly polite conversation, turns into a series of arguments born out of confusions and misinterpretations. Among these confusions, develops numerous funny situations that makes the audience burst into laughter.

Andher Nagari: The play is a satire on a demolishing government. The play revolves around a king who is alienated from the realities of his kingdom. The state of anarchy in the kingdom because of the ignorant ruler resulted in illogical and foolish rules and functioning of the marketplace. Everything, from grocery to sweets was sold for one taka. In a kingdom, where the ruler is lost in the royal luxuries, justice suffered. The play was brought out in its true satirical comical sense, conveying the message for audience to ponder upon their own realities.
